Abstract

462,703. Drying paper. MERCKENS, O. Dec. 6, 1935, No. 33914. [Class 96] In a machine for producing paper, card, or like material, one or more of the drying units in the dry section of the machine take the form of blowing or suction means which travel with the paper &c. web for a time during which a current of air is forced through the web. As shown, in the dry section III of the machine, the paper web d is passed around drying cylinders l ... l<111>, and m... m<111>, one or more of which may each consist of a rotary perforated drum having an internal airdistributing member with a plate to cover the part of the perforated drum not enveloped by the paper-web d. The paper-web is pressed firmly against the shell of each blowing drum by an endless felt, and a pervious muff or felt encloses each blowing drum to prevent masking the paper web. The blowing drums may be heated. A blowing or suction drum h of a similar character is provided in the wet section II of the machine. The web after being dried, is subjected to a cooling and moisture-conditioning treatment in the section IV of the machine by blowing or suction drums q, q<1>, r, r<1> similar to those already described. In a modification, the blowing or suction means may comprise a caterpillar band running above and below the paper web.
