Abstract

977,956. Drying fabrics in long lengths. ABITIBI POWER & PAPER CO. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1963 [Sept. 26, 1962], No. 37381/63. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying paper webs comprises a staggered series of drier rolls 10a... 10h, 11a... 11h, about which the web 18 is caused to pass in circuitous manner between a pair of endless open mesh screens 12, 15 so as to support and restrain shrinkage of the web. The screens pass about a series of idler rollers 14a. ... 14k, and 16a. . . 16i respectively so as to tension the screens. The screens are made of a material of low heat conductivity, e.g. a synthetic fibre. In a further embodiment, idler rolls are mounted between the drier rolls.
