Abstract

1426067 Drying webs VALMET OY 29 Oct 1973 [13 Nov 1972] 50280/73 Heading F4G A multiple cylinder dryer for drying a web 11 comprises a drying cylinder group, an endless drying felt or wire 8 and a plurality of grinding rollers 7, the arrangement being such that the drying cylinders of the group lie outside the drying felt or wire but in engagement therewith. In use the web 11 supported by the felt or wire comes into direct contact with the cylinders 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, in turn. As shown the group comprises two horizontal rows of cylinders and gas may be directed on to the web 11 adjacent guiding rollers 7 by variable width tube arrangements 13 or hoods 14. The group may comprise two vertically extending rows (Fig. 2, not shown) in which case the guide rollers are perforated so that the web and felt or wire may be urged on to the surface thereof. Blowing hoods may be provided about the vertically arranged guiding rollers (Figs, 3, 4, not shown). The space within the felt or wire may be evacuated, sides being provided on the dryer to form with the felt or wire a closed space (Figs. 2, 3, 4, not shown). Four embodiments of two co-operating groups of drying cylinders are disclosed (Figs. 5 to 8, not shown) the web being completely supported by the drying felt(s) or wire(s) in its passage from one group to the other. After passing over the second group the web passes through a calender and then on to a reeling device. The dryer may comprise a plurality of single rows of cylinders (Fig. 9, not shown).
