Abstract

16,315. Schulte, H. July 9. Paper machines.-The paper, cardboard, or pasteboard is impregnated with sizing or weighting materials, solutions of substances having an antiseptic action, &c., by bringing the dissolved or suspended substances into contact with the layer of wet fibre, which has had a large part of its water removed by couching and wet-pressing. The liquid may be applied either to the top roll of the last wet-press, or to a similar roller in front of or behind this press. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the paper p and wet felt f are passed between the rollers p<1>, p<3>, to the upper one of which the liquid is applied by means of a felt t<1>, which is moistened by a roller w dipping into a tank or vessel b. The liquid may be supplied directly to the roller from a perforated pipe, and be uniformly distributed thereon by a flap of textile material or by a scraper. The roller which dips into the liquid, or a rotary brush instead thereof, may be in contact with the paper or with another roller in contact with the paper. The liquid may supplied also through a spray-producer, or from a tank by means of a strip of fabric.
