Abstract

774,171. Crop sprayers. MASSEY-HARRISFERGUSON (SALES), Ltd. Feb. 19, 1954 [Nov. 19, 1952], No. 29177/52. Class 69 (3). Liquid from a tank 1 is fed to spray booms 6, 7 by a valveless pump 2 via a filter 3, a main control valve 5 and boom control cocks 8. The valve 5 comprises a casing 10, Fig. 2, with opposed ports connected as shown in Fig. 1, and a rotatable valve plug 11 which can be set in any one of three positions. In the spraying position, Fig. 2, liquid flows in the direction of the full line arrows, whereas in the position shown in Fig. 3 the liquid in the booms and in the conduits leading thereto is nicked back through the control valve, and flows in the direction of the dotted line arrows through the pump, filter and valve and back to the tank. In the third position the valve ports connecting the tank and booms are blocked. A relief valve 4 and a pressure gauge 9 are provided. Alternatively, the valve ports are not symmetrically spaced, and the valve plug has spraying and suction positions only. In the latter position the tank port of the valve is blocked and the liquid is returned to the tank through the relief valve 4.
