Abstract

732,572. Valves; crop sprayers. SMITH, A. P., and DRAKE & FLETCHER, Ltd. Nov. 20, 1953 [Nov. 27, 1952], No. 30110/52. Classes 69 (3) and 135. In a pipe system for supplying liquid through a control valve to a plurality of outlet lines of which one incorporates a suction means operable by passage of liquid through it, the valve comprises a rotary disc having, at least, one aperture therethrough ; and the valve can be set to deliver liquid either to a desired point or to the suction means which latter serves to drain any liquid from the pipe leading to the delivery point. As applied to a plant for spraying insecticides, the valve device is bolted to a reservoir 3 for the spraying liquid which is forwarded by a pump through a conduit 2 into a chamber a in the valve casing. Excess pressure in the chamber is relieved through a safety valve 6 with an adjustable spring loading. The liquid distributing valve comprises a rotatable disc 9 provided with a through passage 15 and a recess 16 in its under-surface which can be set to connect any two adjacent passages leading into the base on which the valve rotates. In one position of the valve, the liquid in chamber a flows through a conduit 17 to a spray boom ; in the position shown, chamber a discharges through a venturi 18 into a conduit 19 leading back into the tank and the throat of the venturi is connected via recess 16 to the conduit 17 so that any liquid remaining in the boom is sucked out ; and in a third position of the valve, passage 15 is aligned with a conduit 21 leading back into the reservoir so that the pump discharge is by-passed. The pressure in chamber a can be read on a gauge 24. The actuating spindle 12 has a tongue-and-slot connection with the valve disc and it is provided with a spring-pressed positioning detent 14. The edge of the valve disc is provided with a packing ring 10. In a modification, the conduit leads through the side of chamber a instead of the base.
