774,066. Preheating and charging granular &c. material. AKT.-GES. FUR UNTERNEHMUNGEN DER EISENUND STAHLINDUSTRIE. Sept. 20, 1955, No. 26891/55. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for preheating granular &c. material, e.g. cement raw material, and feeding it into a rotary furnace 2 comprises a waste gas offtake 1 leading to a sinuous tube system in the form of uptakes 3, 7 and 11 and downtakes 5, 9 and 13 connected by bends 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 of greater cross-sectional area, an inlet 18 feeding the charge material into the last uptake 11, and a pipe 21 feeding the charge material into the furnace. Feed pipes 19 and 20 connect the bends 14 and 10 with the previous uptakes 7 and 3 respectively. Waste gases are drawn through the system by a fan 16 on the downstream side of a dust collector 15 from which material is fed by a pipe 22 into the feed-pipe 21. Pipe 22 also has a connection 23 with the feed-pipe 20. The sinuous tube has a refractory lining and may be lagged externally.
