Abstract

891,648. Pneumatic conveyers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Nov. 4, 1960 [Nov. 12; 1959], No. 38008/60. Class 78 (1). Fluidized solids B1 are transferred from a lower pressure vessel 10 to a higher pressure vessel 12. Inlet gas passes via line 15 and rises through a perforated partition 14 to pass through the solids B2 in the vessel 12. Output gas from vessel 12 passes through a dust collector 18 to a line 16 connected to the chamber 10. The gas then passes through a perforated partition 13 and through the solids B1 and thence to an outlet line 17. The solids B1 enter the chamber 10 at 19 and pass out through a pipe 20 to a Venturi 23 leading to the chamber 12. As described the apparatus is used for iron ore reduction, the inlet gas being a reducing gas such as hydrogen at a reaction temperature of 1400‹ F. The iron ore fines introduced to chamber 10 are preheated to a temperature of 1600‹ F.
