Abstract
958,136. Pneumatic conveyers. PETROCARB Inc. March 18, 1961, No. 9970/61. Heading B8A. Granular or powdered material is discharged from a hopper 10, Fig. 1, through one or more conical outlets 26 by the action of fluidizing gases introduced through a series of jets 243, Fig. 2, arranged within the conical zones and arranged generally tangentially to the inside wall of the hopper. The material in each conical zone passes vertically downwards through a conduit 28 to a mixing device 30 to which additional gas is supplied through a pipe-line 22 under the control of a valve 33 for carrying the degree of dilution. The apparatus may be used for feeding solids at high solid to gas weight ratios to molten iron or steel, blast furnaces, charging coke ovens and feeding iron ore and lime into open hearth steel furnaces. The uses of air, nitrogen, argon and oxygen as the carrier gases are referred to for the various purposes.
