Abstract
1,098,157. Charging rotary kilns. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. June 23, 1966 [June 23, 1965], No. 28248/66. Heading F4B. In the direct reduction of iron ore and/or nickel ore in a rotary kiln particles of 5 millimetres or greater are separated and fed into the upper end of the kiln, the fine material being blown into the discharge end by preheated gas and distributed over at least 4 metres of the length of the kiln. Particles smaller than 60 microns are also separated and pelletized or briquetted and then charged into the upper end of the kiln. The fire grained material may be introduced by an air stream, which may be combustion air, and it may be introduced through tubes spaced along the kiln axis and inclined at different angles thereto. The ore may be mixed with powdered coal or may be preheated by hot gases in a fluidized bed, the gases originating from the kiln.
