Abstract
981,231. Heat treating granular materials. W. S. MOORE CO. May 29, 1962 [May 31, 1961], No. 20667/62. Heading F4B. Apparatus for reducing low-grade granular iron ore to magnetite comprises riser conduits 10 and 11, respectively, associated with lower Venturis 23 and 24 and upper cyclone separators 13 and 19 and a connecting conduit 28, a combustion chamber 12 supplying partially burnt hot gases, and a gas re-circulation duct 17 connecting the separator 13 to the Venturi 24 which has an inlet conduit 26 for the charge material. The latter is preheated in riser 11, separated out by cyclone 19, fed by conduit 28 to the Venturi 23, roasted and reduced in riser 10, and separated out in cyclone 13 for discharge through conduit 14. Fig. 3 shows the complete layout for a multi-stage system including preheating and roasting conduits 38 and 46, respectively, bunker 29, dry mill 31, air classifier 32, storage hopper 37, combustion chamber 48, cooler 54 for discharged material, magnetic separators 56 and pelletizing apparatus 57.
