773,364. Washing granular material; centrifugal separators. NAYLOR T. R. June 11, 1953 [March 11, 1952], No. 6298/52. Classes 23 and 82 (2) A method of classifying solid particles in a liquid medium comprises the steps of creating a density gradient for the solidliquid mixture in gravity stratification means 37, drawing off a portion of the said mixture to a cyclone or cyclones through at least one feed duct having an inlet 39 in the stratification means and varying either the position of the feed duct inlet or the density gradient in order to obtain the desired solid-liquid ratio for the feed material. The variation of the feed duct inlet position or the density gradient may be effected automatically according to changes in the apex discharge density or changes in the pressure at the overflow. The inlet 39 may be adjusted manually or by means of a float or the density gradient in the member 37 may be varied by varying the material therein.
