Abstract
1498767 Sorting refuse SIEBTECHNIK GmbH 15 April 1976 15691/76 Heading B2H A process for sorting refuse comprises removing the fines by screening, comminuting the refuse, separating the refuse into light and heavy fractions by a gas stream, and separating the heavy fraction into two fractions of different density by a liquid flow. After comminution, the refuse is fed into a zig-zag duct 22 through which air is drawn upwardly by a fan 7. Light material e.g. paper, fabric and light plastics, is entrained by the air stream and removed therefrom in a trap 6. Medium density material collects in a trap 28 having an inlet 26 whose crosssection is adjustable by means of a slide valve 27. Heavy material e.g. heavy plastics, bones and inorganic material, is discharged through a valve 31 and passes to a wet separator 32, Fig. 3, via a vibrating conveyor 40. Water is introduced into the separator 32 from a pipe 36 and flows upwardly through the opening 35 at the base of a tapered insert 34 as indicated by the arrows 37. The lighter material is discharged together with water via an overflow 33 and may be passed to a screen (15) and a second wet separator (16), Fig. 1 (not shown). The heavy material e.g. metal, glass and ceramics, sinks to the bottom of the separator 32, is discharged therefrom by a bucket elevator 39 and is then passed to other sorting machines for the extraction of metal and glass therefrom.
