Abstract

773,141. Sawing. SCHENCK MASCHINENFABRIK GES., C. Nov. 15, 1955 [Dec. 16, 1954], No. 32675/55. Class 145 Apparatus for cutting predetermined lengths from a continuous web 9 of loosely-heaped material such as wood shavings, while it is being conveyed on a conveyer belt 6, comprises a frame 1 reciprocated on rails 4 at the same speed as the belt by a crank drive 3, a frame 11 raised and lowered in the frame 1 by a crank drive 13, a pair of rotating saws or knives 12 in a housing 12b traversable across the frame 11 on beams 16 and a beam 17 loosely mounted in the frame 11 by guide rods 23 and having abutments 18 that press the material down on to the conveyer to ensure clean cuts. At first only the weight of the beam 17 is applied to the material but when the saws or knives reach a predetermined distance from the material springs 19a, 19b engage adjustable buffers 19<SP>1</SP> and exert an increased pressure. The material lies on sheet metal plates 7, the junctions between the plates preferably being covered by metal strips 8, and a rigid bridge 24 on the frame 1 supports the belt 6 in the cutting area.
