Abstract

818,504. Sawing. COOK, E. J. Oct. 21, 1957 [Aug. 7, 1956], No. 24125/56. Class 145. A sawing machine for cutting strips or slats from wood comprises a flat-sided rotor 12 rotatable slowly about a vertical axis by a motor 22 so that planks of wood, resting against the flat sides 14 and projections 15 of the rotor with their lower surfaces supported by a fixed surface 11, are presented to a saw 13 driven by a motor 28 and adjustable vertically on guides 29 to vary the thickness of the strips to be cut. A blade spring 33 engages each plank during its movement past the saw to hold it against the rotor side and the rotor and saw rotate in opposite directions so that the saw tends to urge the planks against the rotor sides. The supporting surface 11 has an upstanding wall 34 and is cut away at 30 to allow the cut strips to fall away while the plank is supported by a riving knife 31.
