Abstract

783,112. Sawing. BERBIG, K. April 20, 1956 [Feb. 28, 1955], No. 5885/55. Class 145. A tool, such as a power saw 38, is mounted in a carriage 18 which is movable by hand along flanged rails 16 mounted on spacer blocks 17 above the edge of a table top 12 so that straight cuts can be made in sheet material placed against an abutment bar 15. The saw blade cuts upwardly and forwardly into the work to urge it against the abutment bar and the nearer rail 16. The corners of the carriage have vertical and horizontal rollers engaging the rails and the axle of one pair of horizontal rollers is pivoted for limited rocking movement about an axis extending longitudinally of the carriage. Triangular bracing supports for the central portions of the rails may be provided. A slot 45 in the abutment bar accommodates the saw blade at the forward end of its travel, as limited by a stop 46, and the rearward travel may be limited by a buffer ring on the tie-bar 19 at the other end of the rails. Measuring rules 48 may be provided. For making cuts at other than right angles to the abutment bar, a strip tapered at the required angle may be positioned against the abutment bar or the rails may be pivoted on the abutment bar and an angular setting scale provided.
