772,905. Purifying gases. BERGWERKSVERBAND ZUR VERWERTUNG VON SCHUTZRECHTEN DER KOHLENTECHNIK GES. July 18, 1955 [July 19, 1954], No. 20751/55. Class 55 (2). In a process of removing H 2 S from gases having a CO 2 content which is at least 10 times that of the H 2 S present, the gases are scrubbed with aqueous ammonia, containing e.g. 0.4 per cent or 0.6 per cent ammonia, while maintaining a gas-liquid contact of below 1.0 second and a gas flow velocity of at least 3 m. per second. The contact time is preferably below 0.1 second and the process may be carried out at elevated pressure and also in several stages.
