Abstract
1296633 Nickel carbonyl INTERNATIONAL NICKEL CO OF CANADA Ltd 6 July 1971 [8 July 1970] 31735/71 Heading C1A Nickel carbonyl is separated from a gaseous mixture with other gases substantially insoluble in liquid iron carbonyl by scrubbing the mixture with liquid iron penta-carbonyl and recovering the dissolved nickel carbonyl. The gas mixture may contain carbon monoxide, 5 to 40% by weight of nickel carbonyl and 5 to 45% by weight of iron carbonyl. The liquid iron carbonyl used for scrubbing should be at a temperature below 25‹ C., and the process may be carried out at a pressure of at least 2 p.s.i.g. The gases are preferably passed in countercurrent. The resulting solution of nickel carbonyl in iron carbonyl may be fractionally distilled and the nickel carbonyl decomposed to form nickel and carbon monoxide, the liquid iron carbonyl being recirculated to the absorber for further use.
