Abstract
Acidic gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide or sulphur dioxide are separated from water gas, producer gas, flue gas &c. by scrubbing with an aqueous amine which is regenerated by heating. To remove corrosive constituents, chiefly oxygen, which would otherwise attack the regeneration vessel the fouled solution is first de-aerated by heating under reduced pressure. In an example, the de-aerator which contains Raschig rings is maintained at a pressure of 20-29 in. mercury and a temperature between 20 DEG C and 70 DEG C, preferably 45-55 DEG C. A 20 per cent aqueous solution of mono-ethanolamine may be employed.
