Abstract

1470299 Removing sulphur dioxide from gases "IL GAS INTEGRALE" SpA 22 May 1974 [1 June 1973 20 Feb 1974] 22982/74 Heading C1A Sulphur dioxide is removed from gases by treating the gas with an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal (Na and K specified) or ammonium sulphite and optionally bisulphite, that has been treated with air or another suitable gas (i.e. a gas that may be utilized to reduce the SO 2 partial pressure above the solution without adversely affecting the ability of the solution to subsequently absorb SO 2 from gases containing SO 2 ) in order to reduce the SO 2 partial pressure above the solution. Preferred pre-treatment gases contain not more than 1% oxygen. Suitable gases include N 2 and CO 2 and their mixtures and combustion product gases containing not less than 1% oxygen.
