Abstract

1410037 SO 2 -removal MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 4 Oct 1972 45838/72 Heading C1A A process for remvoing sulphur dioxide from a flue gas comprises washing the flue gas with a liquid absorbent containing calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate to remove sulphur dioxide, the flue gas being first washed in a first stage with a liquid absorbent whose pH is in the range of from 3À5 to 4À5 and being then washed in a second stage with a liquid absorbent whose pH is in the range of from 6À5 to 7À5. The process can be carried out in a two stage absorbing device. Some of the flue gas may be passed directly to the second stage washing. Gypsum can be recovered from spent liquid absorbent.
