Abstract

1429653 Removal of SO2 from gases FUJI KASUI ENG CO Ltd and SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 June 1973 [25 July 1972 5 March 1973] 27839/73 Heading C1A Removal of sulphur oxides (particularly SO 2 ) from combustion gases is effected by countercurrently contacting with an aqueous suspension of CaCO 3 , in a tower having at least one perforated or grid plate having a free space ratio of 0À25-0À60 at a superficial gas velocity within a specified region (see Specification) and a L/G ratio of >0À5 such that at the tower liquid outlet the pH is 6-8, solids concentration is 3-15% by wt., and the ratio of CaCO 3 to total solids is 5-35% by wt. by supplying at least one of CaO, Ca(OH) 2 or CaCO 3 to suspension absorbent.
