Abstract
772,395. Heating liquids in bulk. BROWN FINTUBE CO. July 29, 1955 [Aug. 19, 1954], .No. 21965/55. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger, particularly a heating unit for heating a mass of liquid in a tank, comprises two coaxial annular headers 11, 12 between which extends an inner and outer annular row of substantially identical heat exchange tubes 14,15 respectively, the diameter of the outer row of tubes being greater than the diameter of one header (11) and the diameter of the inner row of tubes being less than the diameter of the other header (12). The apparatus is described as a further development of the heat exchanger described in Specification 671,012. The tubes are provided with longitudnal fins in the manner described in Specifications 651,465 and 670,574 and the unit is supported in position within a tank by means of U-bolts 29 and legs 31. As shown, one end of each tube is bent through 90 degrees both ends of the tube being welded into suitably formed apertures in the respective headers. It is stated that severe thermal stresses are avoided by making all of the tubes identical in shape.
