Abstract
771,404. Electromagnets. DETROIT COIL CO. May 6, 1955 [Jan. 3, 1955], No. 13163/55. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVI] A plunger type oil immersed electromagnet has the rod for actuating the driven device extending from the housing coaxially with the plunger and encircled by a seal to prevent escape of oil along the rod. In Fig. 2, the casing 30 is sealed by a ring 36 and the diaphragm 40, the centre of which is held in a member 68 abutted by pins 66, 70 which transmit downward force to the driven device 16 when the coil is energized and return the plunger 52 upwards by a spring in the driven device when the coil is de-energized, the oil in the casing 30 having a cushioning as well as a cooling effect. In a modification, sealing rings surround the members linking the plunger to the driven device and the diaphragm is omitted.
