Abstract
1,035,726. Electromagnets. ELDIMA A.G. Oct. 22, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1963], No. 43098/64. Heading H1P. [Also in Division F2] The armature of a plunger-type electromagnet is guided by ball-bearings 45 to eliminate friction. The armature 39 has a tapered magnetic polepiece 28 and an axial bore 38 within which the ball-bearings roll. Within the ball-bearings is a locating sleeve 32 providing the inner race of the balls. The armature is attached to a valve spindle 7, sealed by bellows 9, and biased downwards by spring 34 whose initial compression depends on the vertical position of sleeve 32. This is set by thread 31 by rotation of the sleeve. This is achieved by a cross-piece 37 which passes through apertures 36 in the sleeve and is secured to the armature 39, so that rotation of the armature also turns the sleeve in its thread 31 to adjust its vertical position. The cover 40 is easily removable for this purpose. The armature depresses the spindle by means of a screw 47 in cross-piece 37. This screw is adjusted to leave sufficient air-gap on energization to prevent sticking. A return spring 51 is provided.
