Abstract
771,325. Suction cleaners. FILLERY, G. T. Sept. 9, 1955 [Sept. 9, 1954], No. 26197/54. Class 8(1) A suction cleaner of the horizontal cylinder type on being dragged upstairs by the hose 7, Fig. 1. is prevented from sliding down by an arm 12 pivoted at 11 to the underside of the cleaner casing 5 and urged by a spring outwardly so as to engage a stair tread 19; the arm 12 being free to be retracted from a limit stop on engagement with a stair riser 9 during movement of the cleaner up the stairs. The arm may be held in its retracted position by a spring clip 18, Fig. 3, and in its operative position extends beyond conventional sliders 22. In a modification the arm is held in its retracted position against the casing by a pin and slot mechanism.
