Abstract

848,926. Loft ladders. EVANS, F. H. April 24, 1959 [April 25, 1958], No. 13288/58. Class 20(2) A loft ladder 7 rests on a roller 4 in a loft, a spring latch 10 is mounted on the loft door 8 or other member mounted on a pivot 9 adjacent the roller 4, the latch engages the ladder and is urged towards the pivot 9 by a spring 14 and to raise the ladder it is raised by hand to engage an abutment 16 at the foot of the ladder with the latch, the door 8 is then raised and the weight of the ladder closes the door. To lower the ladder the door 8 is pulled down and the ladder slides down stretching the spring 14 and the ladder is finally moved by hand to disengage the catch 16 from the latch 10, and engage a hook 15 with the roller 4. Numerous minor modifications are described.
