Class 20(2) [Also in Group XIV] A convertible metal seat and step ladder comprises a seat unit c, d, e pivotally attached at e<SP>1</SP> to a leg unit a, b so that when the seat unit is turned through 180 ' degrees relative to the leg unit, sheet metal crosspieces f, g, h together with the seat e form the steps of a ladder. The invention resides in the provision of a bracing rod i pivoted at one end to the seat at e<SP>2</SP> and with its free end sliding in a slot b<SP>1</SP> in the leg b, the slot having lateral extensions b<SP>2</SP>, b<SP>3</SP> into which the rod is slipped and held 'when the article is used as a seat and step ladder respcetively.
