Abstract
770,659. Circlips. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Feb. 2, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 8527/54. Class 89 (2). A circlip consists of a split-ring 14 having its inner and outer surfaces. frusto-conical as at 14b, 14a, one such surface seating on a similar surface 12a of a groove in a part 10 to be assembled with a part 11. One end surface 14d of the ring projects wholly outside the groove to form a locating surface for the part 11. The ring may have its end surfaces frusto-conical as in Fig. 2, and perpendicular to the surfaces 12a, 12b so that the line of the resultant 15 of the thrusts on the two end faces is the same. The ring may be long enough to project further out of the groove, as in Fig. 3, and this ring may be removed by end pressure from a bevelled tool 16. Alternatively, the ring may be removed by pins inserted in radial holes 17 intersecting the groove, or by hooked tools inserted in recesses 18. The ring may lie in a groove in the inner part 11 and project outwards to form an abutment surface for the outer part 10.
