Abstract
846,822. Locking nuts. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Dec. 4, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 39124/58. Class 89(1). A nut 13, Fig. 2, is locked on the screwed-end 14 of a hollow-shaft 11 by a headed-pin 21 inserted into aligned-holes 19, 18, in the end and the nut, from inside the shaft, and held by a resilient retaining-ring 25 inserted in a groove 27 and abutting the pin-head. The head is received in a hole 26 in a ring 23 inserted in the shaft-end, and having the groove 27. The nut has a number of holes 18 equally-spaced therearound, and the shaft-end has a different number of holes. In a modification, the holes 18 are replaced by slots in the free-end-face of the nut, and the ring engages a groove in the innersurface of end 14, the pin-head being cut-away to receive the ring. In another arrangement, the pin-heads 59, Fig. 6, are engaged by a sleeve 61 held in a recess in said end by a ring 62.
