Abstract
928,696. Rectilinear - motion bearings. BEAVER PRECISION PRODUCTS Inc. July 23, 1960, No. 25732/60. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] A coupling between a relatively axiallymovable sleeve 10 and a shaft 12 comprises pairs of grooves 16a, 18a; 16b, 18b in the shaft and sleeve, these grooves containing balls 14 and the grooves 18a, 18b being circumferentially displaced towards each other relatively to the grooves 16a, 16b, so that rotation between the sleeve and shaft in one direction is prevented by one set of balls and grooves 14, &c., while rotation between the sleeve and shaft in the other direction is prevented by the other set of balls and grooves. As shown, four sets of balls and grooves 14, &c. are provided. Each set of balls 14 recirculates through a passage 26 formed in the sleeve 20 and in end caps 22 screwed to the sleeve. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), three pairs of balls and grooves are spaced around the sleeve and shaft, and the shaft is provided with a rack.
