Abstract
679,843. Securing gearwheels to shafts. G.K.N. GROUP SERVICES, Ltd. Sept. 19, 1950 [Sept. 23, 1949], No. 24450/49. Class 80 (ii). [Also in Group XXXIV] A driving connection between a sliding gear unit 15 and shaft 10 comprises ball raceway circuits having straight axially directed portions 19, 20, and curved end portions 22, each circuit being arranged so as to provide a path 19 in which the balls therein are contacted by both members in such manner as to prevent relative rotation of the members in both directions, and a return path 20 in which the balls are free from load, so that the two members may slide relatively to each other, and torque may be transmitted from one member to the other. A sleeve which is in two parts 16, 17 is rigidly fitted within the member 15, Fig. 3, and has four axial grooves 18 on its inner surface which co-operate with grooves 14 formed in the shaft 10 and provide the driving connection portions 19. Grooves 21 in the outer surface of the sleeve provide the return paths 20 for the balls. The end portions 22 of the ball circuits are formed in end plates 23 secured to the member 15. In a modification, a sleeve 32 is secured to a shaft 31, Fig. 6, having outer grooves 33 forming the loaded ball paths, the return ball paths being formed by grooves 36 in the shaft. Specification 679,844, [Group XXII], is referred to.
