Abstract

1,205,979. Bearings. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. 1 Jan., 1969 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 53161/67. Heading F2A. Two counter rotating concentric shafts 1 and 7 are journalled relative to each other by a sleeve 6, mounted between them, which is provided with passages 13 leading from its outer periphery to its inner periphery. As described, the hollow shaft 1 is mounted in the stern 3 of a ship by a conventional stern tube bearing 2. Propellers 4 and 8 are mounted on the shafts for rotation in opposite directions. The passage through the sleeve 6 may be arranged in axial and/or circumferential rows and may also be inclined to the axis of the shafts.
