Abstract

1,006,415. Bearings. W. SCHAEFFLER, and G. SCHAEFFLER, [trading as INDUSTRIEWERK SCHAEFFLER O.H.G.]. Nov. 13, 1963 [Nov. 16, 1962], No. 44897/63. Heading F2A. A spherical journal bearing has an inner ring 1 with a cylindrical opening therein to receive a shaft and having a part - spherical shaped outer surface, and has an outer ring 2 having a cylindrical outer surface and an inner surface shaped to suit the part-spherical shaped surface of the inner ring 1; the outer ring 2 being divided from a single finished piece by cleavage into two parts 4, 5 on a plane passing through its centre at right angles to the axis of the bearing, the parts 4, 5 being firmly connected together by suitable means. In an embodiment the parts 4, 5 are held together by rings 6 which are inserted into annular grooves 7, the grooves 7 being uniformly distributed around the periphery of the ring 2 and in a plane 3, which is the line of separation of the parts 4, 5. The inner ring 1 has annular grooves 9, 10 formed therein which are connected by a number of uniformly distributed radially-directed ducts 11 and the outer ring 2 has a similar number and arrangement of ducts 12.
