1,104,877. Bearings. H. ELGES. 26 May, 1966, No. 23524/66. Heading F2A. A self-aligning bearing has a split outer-ring, the parts of which are connected together by means of one or more rigid rings. The latter may be metal or plastics rings 5, Figs. 1 and 2, which are pressed into grooves 4, semi-circular portions thereof being formed in each part 1 or 2 of the outer-ring, may be metal or plastics which is poured or sprayed, for example, into an annular groove 6, Fig. 3, so as to retain the outer-ring parts 1 and 2 together; may be a layer 8, Fig. 5, of P.T.F.E. which is positioned between the outer-ring parts 1 and 2 and an inner-ring 7, the layer 8 being connected to the outer-ring parts 1 and 2 by means of hollow rivets 9, a metal or plastics ring also being inserted in an annular groove 10 in the outerring parts 1 and 2 if required; may be two angularly profiled sheet metal rings, the radially-inwardly directed rims of which retain sealing-rings in position; or may be a flat-ring, which also retains the sealing-rings and is removed automatically when the outer-ring is pressed into a bore of a machine component. The sealing-rings are received in annular grooves in the outer-ring parts I and 2, the diameter of said grooves increasing conically in the direction of the centre of the bearing.
