Abstract

A stable water-in-oil emulsion comprises 70 to 85 parts of a butadiene-acrylonitrile coplymer latex dispersed in 0.5 to 2.0 parts of an alkyd resin, e.g. an oil-modified glycerol phthalate resin, 1 to 3 parts of a hydrocarbon wax melting between 160 DEG and 185 DEG F., preferably derived from petroleum, and enough volatile, water-immiscible, organic solvent, e.g. paraffinic, aromatic or terpenic hydrocarbons, to make 100 parts total emulsion. In examples a 40 per cent butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer latex is dispersed in a xylol solution of a soya oil-modified glycerol phthalate alkyd, a Varsol solution of a hydrocarbon wax and (1) a mixture of Varsol and "Solvesso" (Registered Trade Mark); (2) turpentine; and (3) the latex is dispersed in a mineral spirit solution of a tall oil modified-glycerol phthalate alkyd, a Varsol solution of a hydrocarbon wax and turpentine. The emulsions may replace, wholly or in part, conventional clear textile printing vehicles, as described in Specification 669,739, which may be used to dilute colour concentrate dispersions of the type described in U.S.A. Specifications 2,533,270 and 2,600,890.
