Abstract

A rapid-setting printing ink comprises a medium or short oil length drying oil modified alkyd resin, a phenol-formaldehyde resin modified by an acidic natural resin and a polyhydric alcohol, an organic solvent boiling above 200 DEG C., and, optionally, driers, pigments, other resins and other ingredients used in such inks. The proportion of the alkyd resin to the phenolic resin is preferably from 2 to 6 : 1 parts by weight. In examples the inks contain a linseed oil modified alkyd, a phenol-formaldehyde-rosin-polyhydric alcohol condensate, an aliphatic hydrocarbon boiling at 260-290 DEG C. or linseed oil (with or without spindle oil) with or without an aromatic petroleum distillate, and additives selected from polythene wax, carbon black, blue toner, Prussion blue, copper phthalocyanine and hydrated alumina.
