654,535. Printing ink. CLARK, G. M. (Huber Corporation, J. M.). July 26, 1948, No. 19922. [Class 146 (iii)] An emulsion printing ink of the water-in-oil type is formed with a dispersion of colouring matter in a water immiscible organic liquid which is emulsified in water by the aid of a small amount of a long chain non-aromatic amine containing a linear hydrocarbon chain of at least 15 carbon atoms and having at least 18 carbon atoms attached to a nitrogen atom through carbon bonds, such as octadecylamine, or 1 hydroxyethyl-2 heptadecenyl-imidazoline. The immiscible organic liquid may be a petroleum hydrocarbon, and resin may be added and also metallic dryers such as cobalt naphthenate. Water is present to the extent of 15 to 50 per cent of the finished ink. Examples. (1) Heat-set ink. Forty-five parts of zincated resin and 2 parts of paraffin wax dissolved in 25 parts of petroleum hydrocarbon of distillation range 470-500‹F. and 1 part of amine added. Twenty-five parts of water then mixed therewith, and 15 parts of carbon black, 8 parts of lamp black, and 5 parts of milori blue pigment added thereto. (2) Magazine ink. Seventy parts of linseed oil, 20 parts of carbon black, 7 parts of alkali toner, and 3 parts of cobalt naphthenate mixed in a mill, and added thereto 25 parts of water and 1 part of octadecyldimethyl amine, and the whole again mixed.
