Abstract
Ink compositions for printing cloth webs (see Group XVI) comprise vat, pigment, acid, acetic, dispersed basic, sulphur, azo, or direct colours in admixture with synthetic resins &c. In examples: (1) cotton cloth bleached and flattened by passage through a nip of a conventional rolling calendar is printed with a mixture consisting of 3 parts alkyd resin, 8 parts naphtha distilling in the range 300-400 DEG F., 20 parts Anthraquinone Vat Brilliant Violet (C.L. 1104) and 69 parts water emulsified to give a water-in -oil emulsion of 1900 centipoises viscosity; (4) 3 parts alkyd resin, 20 parts naphtha, 3 parts Pontamine Fast Yellow (C.I. 814) 10 parts urea, and 64 parts water, giving an emulsion of viscosity 1450 centipoises; (6) 3 parts Ponsol Golden Orange (C.L. 1098) are hall milled into 37 parts xylol, 20 parts phenol-formaldehyde resin, 10 parts solventsoluble soap in 30 parts xylol. The alkyd resins specified may be castor or soya modified alkyds, e.g. as obtained by reacting 140 parts glycerol, 200 parts phthalic anhydride and 230 parts linseed oil fatty acids to give a resin having an acid number less than 9.
