Abstract

The dispersibility of carbon black and other pigments in aqueous or other suspensions of rubber such as latex is enhanced by exposing the pigment particles to the vapours of an oily material such as those of a pine or petroleum distillate, tung oil, soya bean oil, wood oil, &c. The pigment particles are thereby coated with an oily material. The process is particularly applicable to those forms of carbon black known as "channel" and "thermatonic" blacks.ALSO:Aqueous or other suspensions of rubber, such as latex, contain carbon black or other pigment whose dispersibility in the suspension has been enhanced by exposing the pigment particles to the vapours of oily materials, whereby the particles are coated with oily material. Suitable oily materials are pine or petroleum distillates, tung oil, soyabean oil &c. The process is particularly applicable to those forms of carbon black known as "channel" and "thermatonic" blacks.
