Abstract

13,848. Carrick, J. T., and Pattison, B. S. June 12. Pigments.-Browned ferroferric oxide for use as a pigment is blackened by heating with oil or oleaginous matter to a temperature insufficient to produce carbonization of the oil. The oxide may be dropped into the heated oil, and the blackened oxide may be freed from oil by extracting with a volatile solvent. In making a paint, the browned oxide may be heated with linseed or other suitable oil used as a vehicle.
