Abstract
A micaceous iron oxide paint contains lead cyanamide in a proportion of at least 10 per cent. by weight of the micaceous iron oxide present. A very satisfactory anti-corrosive paint is obtained by mixing micaceous iron oxide and lead cyanamide with a standard paint base such as linseed oil varnish, or alkyd resin or both; the lead cyanamide should preferably be in an amount of 30 per cent. to 100 per cent. by weight of the micaceous iron oxide. This gives a green paint, which may have whitelead added and be toned down with carbon black, graphite, or black iron oxide; chromium oxide may also be added. To produce a red paint the micaceous iron oxide and lead cyanamide mixture is toned with red iron oxide and black iron oxide.
