Abstract

769,232. Charging storage bins &c. CABOT, Inc., G. L. Jan. 21, 1955, No. 1835/55. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (4). Granular material is loaded into a hopper wagon or other enclosed space by a conduit 14 which leaves an annular space for air to pass through the loading port into the enclosed space which is held at a sub-atmospheric pressure. This is stated to cause the material to flow so as to fill the space evenly, instead of forming a conical pile, without causing breakage of the material. In the arrangement illustrated air is extracted from the hopper compartment being filled through apertures 18 by a suction conduit 16 applied to a port 12 in a second hopper compartment. The conduit 14 delivers through a hopper 13 mounted in one of the ports 12 and furnished with a coarse grid 17 for preventing entry of foreign particles. The invention is particularly applicable to handling pellets of carbon black.
