Abstract

766,829. Cathode materials and processing. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. June 30, 1954 [July 6, 1953], No. 19246/54. Class 39(1). A thermionic cathode has an underlying smooth dense coating 28 of oxide, and an outer layer 42, fluffy and less dense, of the same material. In an example, a filament wire of 0À00045 in. diameter is coated, electrophoretically or by spraying, with a layer of the usual carbonates, about 0À001 in. thick, and density 1-3 gm./cc. A further sprayed layer is then applied, of density about 0À4 to 0À5 gm./cc., and 0À0015 in. thick. Indirectly heated cathodes may be similarly prepared.
