758,100. Cathode constructions and materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BRODIE, I. Nov. 4, 1954 [Nov. 12, 1953], No. 31440/53. Class 39 (1). In a supply cathode, the container 1, usually of molybdenum, has an internal coating 2 of a refractory material which will not react with the alkaline earth compounds during manufacture. Such a coating may be platinum, iridium, or rhodium. A layer of a platinum resinate solution may be brushed on, and then heated. The edges of the closure disc 7 and container 1 are bevelled, and may be filed to ensure good thermal contact, before welding together in an atmosphere of " forming gas " ; the temperature of the molybdenum container is preferably kept below 1000‹ C. to prevent its alloying with the platinum. The cathode may be used in a cathode-ray tube.
