Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a cathode for a cathode-ray tube small, enable realization of a sufficient breakdown strength of the cathode, and enhance the tube characteristic by forming several insulating layers on the surface of a heater, and forming the first insulating layer made of Al by vapor deposition before the Al deposited on the heater is subjected to anodic oxidation. CONSTITUTION:Al is deposited on the surface of a coil 21 by vapor deposition. The coil 21 coated with Al is put in a solution of, for example, oxalic acid or sulfuric acid, and current is made to flow in the solution by using the heater as an anode so as to make the former Al to be oxidized, thereby a first insulating layer 22 touching the surface of the heater being formed. After that, the coil 21 is taken out of the solution, and a second insulating layer 23 made of a pulverized Al2O3+W powder and a third insulating layer 24 made of pulverized Al2O3 powder are formed over the first layer 22 by a spray method or the like. By the means mentioned above, the insulating layers can be made thin, a sufficient breakdown strength of a cathode can be achieved, and the tube characteristic can be enhanced.
