A capacitor in which a certain characteristic . is designated by the application of colour, is constructed by winding up the electrodes with interleaved dielectric strips, e.g. of polystyrene, part at least of one of which is coloured so that when wound up the coloured part forms the outer covering of the capacitor. The capacitor is then heated so that the outer turns and the edges of the dielectric fuse together, thus providing a sealed casing for the capacitor. By the use of appropriate colours a characteristic such as working voltage, may be designated. A further feature, i.e. the end from which the lead connected to the outer electrode projects, may be indicated by making the appropriate lead of milled or corrugated form or of rectangular section.
