Abstract
849,510. Capacitors. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. April 27, 1959 [April 29, 1958], No. 13557/58. Class 37 A " self-healing " capacitor which may either be wound from self-healing metallized polystyrene film or be of laminated construction has its capacitance value adjusted by having a hole cut or drilled in it, preferably between its ends, a low potential being first applied between the drill or other cutting tool and the electrode and subsequently a voltage slightly higher than the operating voltage of the capacitor being applied between the electrodes to burn out any bridging between the electrode edges. The capacitance is measured at the end of each completed operation which is then repeated if necessary. The adjustment may be carried out either before or after the capacitor is encased in synthetic resin and in the latter case the hole is filled with dielectric, for example, of the same material as the casing. -
