765,799. Drawing-mandrels; rolling. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd. June 6, 1955 [June 16, 1954], No. 17667/54. Class 83 (4). In a method of producing metal tubes by drawing or rolling over a mandrel b, Fig. 1, a billet a having a bore extending throughout its length is pulled through the dies d or rolls by means of the mandrel which has a reduced end c adapted for detachable connection with a draw-bar e and inserted through the dies. The billet a may be cast with a reduced end for engaging over the leading end of the mandrel b or it may be a pierced blank, the end of which is subsequently contracted by a squeezing tool. In drawing a tube through a series of dies a second draw-bar may be attached to the rear end of the mandrel so that at the completion of the drawing operation it will be already threaded through the dies for attachment of another mandrel.
