Abstract
195,013. Player, E., and Sterling Metals, Ltd. Sept. 6, 1922. Squirting.-Extrusion presses for pipes are provided with means for ensuring the homogenity of the billet before the extrusion commences. Before the ram b is moved a bush fitting tightly the block g at i<2> and the die f at i<1> is placed in position. The first movement of the ram thus compacts the billet until the pressure is sufficient to push out the bush. The parallel part of the bush fitting the block g is at least twice the length of the part fitting the die. The mandrel c has an enlargement of smaller diameter than the bore of the die to produce a thin part to facilitate the detachment of the tube from the billet. A pad e centres the inner end of the mandrel.
